Quality Time

Sitting at home on my own tonight. Catching up on some long neglected quality time with the TV.  Oh how I missed you TV. Just me and you. You and me. Oh yes.  Just us enjoying the endless supply of movies that digital cable provides.

All this makes me miss summer vacation.

Method to the Madness

Every so often I sit at my desk looking around my office at the pile of files and I know, I'm actually working here.  What a road it's been.  Back during law school days I remember going from interview to interview, and eventually looking over my offers and asking her, which one should I take. She told me to take the agency job and I did.  That set me down a path to where I am now.  From there to DOJ to the private side and back.  I know for certain that I would not have been here now had it not been for her pointing me in this direction during school.  How different my present would have been.  What a profound influence.

The unexpected twists of life...

There hasn't been much new news.  The new job has been going well.  For me, it's much better than working like a dog on the private side.  I also moved to a new apartment, bought a fridge, and bought a new TV, all of which officially leaves me broke.

On a side note, I randomly ran into Roxan at a Subway near work. Turns out she also works nearby.

Just stuff I thought about.

I think the older I get, the more out of touch I get.  I really have no idea what other people do.  I know I come home and do this and that, but what do other people do? Do they do the same uninteresting things I do? How unfortunate for them.  If they are doing other things, what are they doing? Is it something I should consider doing?  But then, I'm also getting lazy.  I don't want to go out.  "Hey what're you up to tonight," I call to ask.  "Naaah, I think I'll stay home, but thanks."  So why did I ask?? Because I want to know what other people do.  I wonder if anyone else thinks about this.

I went to Texas for a wedding last week.  Texas is an odd place.  It's a mishmash of food places and shops with a spiderweb of freeways.  There is no zoning or proper city planning whatsoever.  As crazy as California is, it seems logical by comparison.

Which leads me to some recent sights and sounds...

I was walking in LA recently while on my way to the metro station.  I looked up at the Christmas lights of the U.S. Bank buildings and the lights of the surrounding buildings as some evening fog rolled in.  It was all very pretty.  Christmas music played while people skated about in the outdoor ice rink.  Then some cops ran by, chasing two guys selling bootleg dvds. I know because I saw them selling just a few minutes before.  Then I passed a bus stop that smelled like urine.  I know there was nothing significant about any of this, but it felt like an interesting blend of things at one time.  The oddness of it all made me smile--what a place.

UNPROFESSIONAL

The other attorney in court seemed to have some serious problems.  She chose to pick a fight over ridiculous things, essentially accused us of inventing an expert from the University of Tennessee, and went on a fishing expedition with her questions, which the judge allowed over my objections.  Ultimately, she lost.  As the judge was giving his decision, she opened and slammed her books, tapped her foot loudly, and threw her pen on the desk.  After the judge was done, she got up, pushed open the gate to the courtroom gallery so it slammed against the railing, KICKED a bench, and slammed the door to the hallway.  The judge just raised an eyebrow and laughed.  Way to be a professional.
